The car runs like the day it was built and there is nothing to think that this car will require anything or any money spending on it in the future. GENUINE 205 1.6 GTI for (very reluctant) sale : North London : £1,500
For sale is my 1991 (registered 01/08/1991) 205 1.6 GTI with 90,000 miles on the clock. I bought this car in Aug of last year with the aim to keep for many years to come, but recent vocational changes forces emigration, hence the very reluctant, cheap and quick sale. There is good service history with all the receipts from the last 15 months. Since I bought it for £2,000, it has covered 12,000 miles comfortably, failed on me once due to a flat battery in the snow of last winter, and passed its MOT first time in April. It is a reliable, fun, smooth, and above all a genuine GTI, which if I could choose not be here, I would! It’s MOT’d until 19th April 2012 and taxed to 31st Jan 2012. I have spent almost a grand on her, the majority in the last 2 months to ensure she is up to scratch for the winter, only as I said, recent changes forces emigration. Here’s a little of what I’ve had done: > New N/S driveshaft and CV gaitor, etc > New Rear wheel bearings, slave cylinders, etc > New track rod ends > Replaced exhaust manifold and gaskets, including machining the two faces > New handbrake cable > 11 month old battery with 3 year warranty > New thermostat 14 months ago (should last 10+years) > Recently fitted almost new front tyres So, a little bit about the car, with good and bad points that I am trying to be as honest about as I can Engine & Exhaust A smooth, original runner that hasn’t been modified, and kept in good condition by me and it’s previous owner, like I said, the only failed start was winter last year. Ticks over nicely, maybe the idling revs wander a bit between 800 and 1200 revs starting in winter, but still accelerates hard and drives superb at 70+mph for long periods. I thought she was overheating soon after I bought her, but the root cause was the thermostat and since then there have been no such issues. I was worried with oil consumption at one point; approx 1l every 1,000 miles, but I’ve learned this is standard for GTI’s (and is actually better for the engine to have new oil added so regularly!). Fairly new steel exhaust and only blowing has come from a crack in the exhaust manifold, which I’ve replaced recently. She could do with a service before winter, which I will do professionally for an extra £100, but I realise many of you would like to do that yourselves! Steering & Suspension The steering was heavy, after which I had a full check and test of the components from an experienced 205 mechanic. The outcome was a new N/S driveshaft, track rod ends and tracking, she now feels so smooth on the road. I’ve only just installed almost new Pirelli’s on the front two wheels, and the two rear wheel cylinders have been replaced. I’ve even got a 5th wheel (excluding the spare) with 4mm tread Pirelli’s the same as on front you can have. Bodywork Miami blue with sunroof and in very good condition with no real obvious marks or dents, and even the underside is pretty healthy too! The sunroof doesn’t leak either which is real problem amongst these. The N/S sunroof rim fell off recently which I haven’t got round to sorting, and the radio aerial base needs replacing. These are both medial bits in my opinion that won’t cost more than £20 and a little bit of time sourcing to put right. Interior Again, I’m pretty chuffed with the interior, all lights and the dashboard work fine. It is the full cloth version that has inevitably resulted in ripping of the sides of the front two seats. This isn’t terrible compared to some that I’ve seen, but I’ve found seat covers to protect that resemble the rest of the black and red interior – definitely the best colours these GTI’s offer! It’s got an alright CD player that’s been fitted, only I prefer to listen
